Took 5 years, several thousands of dollars, and a lot of frustration, but it is DONE. 1977 CB750F Cafe Racer. Now it’s time to fully enjoy it. I’ll be at the FCA Cars & Coffee tomorrow with it as well.
5 Years ago how it looked when I bought it for $900
Few pictures of the progress over time

Why a Cafe Racer makes a terrible first project
![]() 08/05/2016 at 09:04 |
|
Because everything is ancient on the bike and it’s expensive to find parts that “just bolt right on”

But isn’t that half the challenge?
Nice build, I rode a CB750K back in the 70's in college. Had Barnett racing clutch, 836cc big bore kit, rejetted and different pipes. So fast for the day.

Stock wheels too, just paid a guy to do a full tear down on them, replace the seals, bearings, etc, and powder coat each part. I was amazed how much better they looked.

Love. I’m building an XS650 cafe-style as my first bike , and found it oh-so-much easier than working on cars. How was tuning for those pods?

haha yeah, it’s the new SR-71 blackbird article

I took in for jetting and tuning. They had a vaccum tester hooked up to each boot between the carb and cylinder so they could make sure each cylinder was getting the same amount of air

Cool. I built a homemade manometer to balance the carbs, but it’s immensely easier on a twin-pot vs. the 4-banger. Though your post got me looking, and I found a derelict 750 about 2 miles from my place that’s just crying out for a resto...

It’s my 6th bike, I think. It’s my first custom project through. I’ve built a race bike for the desert, that was a lot of work, but it was on a new bike
